Chapter 13 - Odysseus Lands in Ithaca



Summary: (Jourdan)

Odysseus finishes telling his story to Alcinous. They send him on his way back home. They give him large amounts of gold and silver. Poseidon is still mad, and complains to Zeus that nobody respects him. He is mad that the Phaeacians help travellers. So Zeus thought of a plan to get back at the Phaeacians. On their return home when they are insight of their city, they will turn into a rock that looks like their ship. Meanwhile, Odysseus awakes from his sleep in his hometown of Ithaca. He is unsure where he is, until he meets Athene disguised as a shepherd.The shepherd tells him he is in Ithaca, but Athene makes sure he is unreconizable to the people of Ithaca. Odysseus then comes across the real Athene. She reveals that she has been helping him the whole time. They think of a plan to get rid of his wife's suitors, and the return of Telemachus. She turns Odysseus so unreconizably ugly that even his own family won't reconize him. She then tells him to go talk to his loyal swineherd, while she brings back Telemachus.
